Hot-lanta

I am in Atlanta for the weekend watching my sister and getting my big-city fix before heading back to school. I sold 15 more bobby pins yesterday to the owner of a store near my house here. :) So, overall, 48 total have been sold!

While here, I have done some shopping as well as some thrift store hunting. Thrift stores can be so much fun if you find the right things!

For $20 I got:
4 children's books that will help this semester when I am in Kindergarten,
A couple funny t-shirts (1 is a brightly colored 80's tee with a front pocket, and 1 has an abnormally large Bigfoot creature on the front that says "Bigfoot Hiking Club"),
A 100% silk Liberty of London brand paisley tie (to make bobbies out of),
A 3 shelved rolling cart for moving things to and from at the festival
A brand new french memo board
and a VHS (because I still have a player...)

While I'm here, I'm going to switch out my bedding at school with the bedding I have here (Yay!), and will be taking my refurbished table back to school with me. Why, I'm not sure, since I will be moving out in a couple months!

Here is the table before (another great thrift find! $10 Ikea round table)...

Joey wanted to be in there!

And after some tips and reading up on weathering with paint, here is the after...

The legs were sanded to show wear on the curves

You can see in the mid to bottom left where the crackling glaze was too thick and did not work out too well, but I can just put a lamp or something over it, I guess!
I'm not really sure what to do with this table, so we'll see!

Back on the road tomorrow...

See ya!

Rammer Jammer, Hotty Toddy, Rocky Top, and some Bulldogs

I've started making some different types of hairpieces for the fall football season as well as different types of fasteners for little girls and toddlers. This has opened up so many more options, it's overwhelming!

Here are some I have made already...don't worry, of course the Tigers will be in there!

Haven't decided what to do with this one just yet!
I got some great news earlier this week about a possible job opportunity in the near future. So so excited! It sounds so great, I should probably prep for the interview at some point, but it's still a ways away.

I'm going into the kindergarten classroom for the first time tomorrow...I'm excited but kind of nervous!

Just Joey II

After playing with my camera some more, and catching some great ones of my spoiled little poodle, I have some pictures to show you!

This is my absolute favorite! He's bowing his head and saying his prayers...
Ok, I need to stop procrastinating and do some classwork now!

See ya later!

Playing with my camera....

It's Thursday night and it's the start of my weekend! So some of us (and our dogs) went on a mini-adventure...
We have this cornfield right next to our apartment (gotta love the small town. Ha...) that was just harvested and mowed down to just the bottom of the stalks. We decided to put our boots on; or if you're a city girl like me: your pink floral rainboots; and explore in the dark. We walked quite a while and found an awesome tree that was hollow in the middle with some wild berries growing around it. I played with my camera to try to get a picture of it, but the flash couldn't catch it in a great light. After finding one too many stink bugs, we headed back. There is also a random fire hydrant in the cornfield (as to why, I'm not sure) and it was great to use as I messed around with my camera!

Check it out:

This was using the color accent option: only picking up on the red, and turning everything else to grayscale. This was taken in a pitch black cornfield :)

I was out with Joey earlier today and I heard this weird moan noise coming from the woods behind the now empty cornfield.

Look who it was!
We have some new neighbors we didn't know about! This was at a 16x zoom, so it is kind of blurry. There were two of them out there, but I wanted to get the one that was looking at me :)
I wanted to play some more on my camera so the following pictures are just the differences in the options: just for fun :)

My favorite pictures to take are extreme close-ups using the macro lens. This is the bobby I wore today in my braid, with an extra blank bobby to hold my thick hair.

This was taken using only a flash. The actual camera is what is making the shadow in the corner.

This same bobby pin was taken without the flash using natural light. So much better!

My fortune from my date with the boyfriend tonight :) I kinda like it!
Halloween bobbies: go check them out at The Looking Glass: Coffee and Curiosities!

See ya!

I'm going back to Kindergarten...

I am taking a pre-service Kindergarten Practicum course this fall where every Wednesday, I will be observing and teaching a couple lessons in a Kindergarten classroom for the first half of the day. I'm really excited, because I'm thinking this is the age I hope to teach sometime! We have to create a "Me Bag" for our introduction into the class, and were told to bring pictures of us when we were in Kindergarten to relate to the students. I came across a couple shoeboxes filled with pictures while at my grandparents' house this weekend. Some of the ones I found and am taking:

Do you see any resemblance?
My mom is on the left, and I am on the right.
It is always interesting to go back through older pictures that have not been seen in a while!

Since becoming an education major, I have mainly been around 4th and 5th graders, so my lesson plans for Kindergarten will be completely different. It's weird after being in school for 16 some-odd years, going back to the basic: What sound does S make?

The only down side: I was assigned to a school 30 minutes away from where I live, and I haven't the slightest idea where this school is, but it's only once a week, and it will be fun!

"Take what you can from your dreams, make them as real as anything." - DMB

So the weeks are quickly passing by until the festival! Only a little over a month! (It will be weird when it's all over and there is nothing to work for anymore!)

There are now two stores that are selling my hairpieces! I'm so excited for this!
If you live in Atlanta, go check out:

Broadwell Cottage
765 Mid Broadwell Road
Alpharetta, GA 30004

If you live in Martin, TN, go check out

The Looking Glass
215 S. Lindell St.
Martin, TN 38237

Maybe when I move back to Memphis in January, I can get some there as well!

Check back for some new pictures with collegiate bobby pins and ponytail holders, as well as my completed cash apron for the festival!

Where were you 9 years ago today?
I was in 7th grade Science when our principal came over the intercom to tell us the news...

Packages are always fun to get!

I got some things in the mail today for the festival! I found this great template on Vistaprint a few weeks ago. I splurged a little and bought a yard sign to go outside the booth to draw people in, and it came in today along with 3 "Joey B." pens, a notepad, and 30 notecards with envelopes! Vistaprint was pretty inexpensive, you just have to get through the oodles of pages trying to sell you more that they add before the checkout button.

This is the front of the yard sign with stand

notepad and pen!

Joey tonight on the way to Memphis. He's the best car rider!
